It’s not over until it’s over at Turnbulls! And we are open this Monday 7th
By now most of our customers will know that founder Charlie Turnbull has decided not to renew the lease on the cafe, and our last day, Sunday 13th May, will coincide with the Shaftesbury Food & Drink Festival. Watch out for a special valedictory message from Charlie himself in our next newsletter, which will also be our last, out next week, and new treats on the menu.
Meanwhile we are open on Bank Holiday Monday 7th May, and going out in a blaze of…pickle! Yes, there are rows and rows and rows of enticing Extraordinary Pickle waiting to be snapped up, delicious with a Mexican-style Shaftito* tortilla wrap, a popular item reborn from one of our early menus.
In the deli this week, we again feature a cheese with surely one of the best back-stories in the business: Renegade Monk, made with milk from the Bruton Organic Dairy and washed in ale, a technique that originated in the Franciscan monasteries of France and Belgium.
Cheese, cheese, cheese. Our window display is dedicated to the Gold Hill Cheese Race on 13th (what else?), Charlie’s brainchild and a major part of his legacy for the town.
*An admittedly cheesy pun on burrito.
